Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis is inflammation/repetitive strain of the soft tissue and tendon on the sole of the foot. You may experience pain in the heel, arch or sole of the foot which can be especially painful in the morning. This problem is very common in runners, as the injury is often caused by overuse.
How can we help?
We use a combination of shockwave therapy & tendon rehab exercises to fully rehabilitate the tendon. We begin with a full consultation and examination of the foot and gait with one of our osteopaths. Shockwave therapy is often a significantly quicker method of treatment compared to other manual therapies.
Will it work?
Shockwave has been proven to be a highly effective treatment for plantar fasciitis. Shockwave Therapy provides an evidence-based, successful alternative to surgery or cortisone injection for many patients that are suffering from plantar fasciitis, it has been shown in studies to be over 80% effective in cases that have not resolved.
The most effective treatment package is 3 treatments over 3 weeks with a exercise rehab course to follow to fully rehab then tendons. Completing a follow up rehab program either with us or in the gym will make a huge difference to recurrence of the injury. A 6 week follow up rehab program can stop any recurrence for 12 months or more, this is especially important for athletes.
Don't be put off by the "shock" part!
This is not a electric shock, shockwave is a sound-wave that is passed through the tissue, it causes microtrauma to the tendon and restarts the healing process.
